I bought this weird cauliflower thing at a farmer's market. It was really pretty, with all those spirals on it. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) the best pictures I got of it were the ones with Suu in them... (I had wanted one "plain" one, but...)

I'm also sorry to report I never tried to eat it. It was a photo prop only. I should have tried it, but I ran out of time to cook it and it got a bit spoiled looking... The farmer I bought it from said it could be steamed. I also am not sure what it was called! They have a lot of interesting vegetables at this farmer's market. I just had a salad made out of all heirloom tomatoes. So tasty!! And I've been living off of apples - they have many different and unusual types. Some are heirloom, and some are just from other areas, I think. Everyone's favorite seems to be the honeycrisps. I'm not sure what the story of those is. But I've had a lot of other types I liked quite a bit too. Unfortunately, I keep forgetting all of the names! Ok, so this is all entirely unenlightening, but it IS a blog about Pinkys, and not vegetables! :)

I do have one last farmer's market item to show you though. There's no pinky here, but look at these huge mushrooms! I love the name too, they are called "hens of the woods". I didn't try these either, because I can't imagine what I would do with a mushroom like that, but I thought that they were really interesting!

Oh, and in case you are interested, this farmer's market takes place on saturday mornings in Union Square, Somerville, Massachusetts.
